The new Intermarché store in Nemours (80 km south-east of Paris) was opened on Tuesday 27th October. This 5,500 sqm hypermarket is set up in a former warehouse… which is completely round! The design and shopfitting were entrusted to HMY.

The uncommon setup of the building required reflection about the layout of the spaces. Thus, Mr. Richard Doyen, CEO of the store, suggested a layout in the form of an arena in order to emphasize the spaces, conceptualize the central part and create a surprise. The common denominator of the whole furniture is the visual identity of the point of sale, created by the HMY design department. The theme chosen for the store was a poppy, the symbolic emblem of the city of Nemours.

In concrete terms, fruits & vegetables displays from the FLexis range as well as the services islet display were placed at the heart of the arena, like a star. Around this central area, gondolas were set up in circles, like the petals of the poppy, and have the distinctive feature of being higher and higher the further out they go, to offer better visibility. Then, fresh products areas mould the walls of the hypermarket. On the opposite side are the Axis range checkouts.

Most of the furniture are HMY standard products (FLexis and Axis ranges, Evolution P25 shelving), but some other pieces of furniture have been specially designed for the hypermarket, like the S-shaped fitting rooms, the tables for the textile and table accessories or even aisles of end displays that are in transparent PET, with engraving, prints and blue, green or red backlighting.

In the end, this point of sale rallied all HMY departments: design, visual communication, technical design office, manufacturing and installation. Its huge success underlines the HMY know-how, from design to installation.
